During the past few years, we have been organising various activities to collect the funds needed to renovate our scouting hut. Amongst these activities, we have been managing an orientation hike (Adeps Points Verts) for 20 years. This hike has been gaining in success and the 2019 edition had over 2000 participants. The Covid 19 pandemic prevented us from offering this activity to the public in 2020. The current sanitary circumstances are forcing us to recreate the event and even to have bigger dreams.
As scouts and guides walking and hiking is part of our DNA. Scouts and guides have been walking for ever and in 2021, when it is not always possible to meet and hike as a group, we have decided to organise a virtual hike inspired by Jules Verne’s adventure novel “Around the world in 80 days”. Join us if you would like to become Phileas Fogg!
Whether you walk for one kilometre or for 150, live near us in Belgium, elsewhere in Europe or on the other side of the world, join us on the 22nd of February 2021. The 22nd of February is Thinking Day, our founder Baden Powell’s birthday, and the day for celebrating international scouting friendship.
The biggest challenge ever: to walk around the world in 80 days. Together, let's accumulate 41,105.42 km by walking the distance where we want, and when we want (between February 22 and May 12, 2021).
The 4 distances to choose from are 5 km, 10 km, 20 km or 100 km.
For 80 days we will hike, for 80 days we will accumulate kilometres culminating on the 12th of May 2021 during a big celebration in our scouting hut.
The "Globe80" challenge is not an official competition, there will be no ranking. The full registration fee will be donated to the 287th Unit of the Pluralist Scouts and Guides from Belgium for its specific project which consists of the rehabilitation of premises for children.
Walk, send us pictures, show us your participation!
